John joined PBA in 1987 and became a Partner in the Practice’s Structural Group in 1995. John has worked to expand the Practice’s portfolio into residential mixed use, with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary service provision in urban regeneration and education.
Initially, he worked with Peter Brett, the Practice founder, to develop new forms of structural steelwork, culminating in joint authorship of a manual for design published by the Steel Construction Institute. John has since worked on major projects such as Paddington Walk in London, Sun Microsystems in Farnborough, the redevelopment of Southampton airport and Slough Trading Estate and the framework commission with Oxford University.
He is a non-executive director of the Steel Construction Institute and after completing a six-year period on the Standing Committee for Structural Safety (SCOSS) has continued on the review panel for the UK’s confidential reporting of structural safety (CROSS).
His current focus is on commercial office refurbishment and building up the firm's experience in forensic and expert witness work, both in the Construction and Technology Court and internationally, where he has been cross-examined before the International Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bucharest, and the Dubai International Court of Arbitration.
