In 2015, under the HCA Framework, PBA was appointed to lead a multidisciplinary team in developing a masterplan and submitting planning applications for high-quality new community facilities and new homes in New Addington town centre in the London Borough of Croydon.
The Local Plan identifies New Addington as a location for growth, with significant opportunities to capitalise on its strategic position. Moreover, the town centre itself has been allocated as an area for rejuvenation to make it more attractive to users, shoppers, visitors and usable for community events.
Our planning team recently gained consent for the development of a new leisure and community centre which is anticipated to be the catalyst for regenerating the town centre. The development will replace existing, ageing leisure and community space as well as providing a small number of family homes along the rear elevation, avoiding the blank facade wall problem often associated with large leisure centre schemes.
A high-quality residential scheme is also planned nearby. This will seek to provide an extension to the existing community through new homes with a mix of tenures. Taken together, the council sees these two new developments as making a real difference for residents, businesses and the whole community.
PBA is providing planning, transport, environmental, utilities and engineering advice.
The leisure and community centre is due be constructed and open by the end of 2018 and we are now working with the client on the delivery phase of this important new local facility.
