Brandenburg Park,
Genshagen, Germany
Setting precedence through practical innovation
It is a rare, but satisfying moment when innovative solutions are recognized as the most logical and functional, not only overcoming scepticism but actually setting precedence.
Background
Brandenburg Park is one of Europe’s largest business parks and, at the time of development, the largest in Germany. The 240ha mixed-use development, situated in former East Germany, provides business premises for the commercial, retail, industrial and logistical sectors and has attracted over 50 companies which are now based there.
Solutions
We produced standard-setting innovation ranging from transport to masterplanning, and produced the country’s first grade separated roundabout together with a sustainable drainage system which utilises run off in stunning on-site aquatic features. Far from innovation for the sake of it, our solutions were so effective that they caught the attention of the German government. Working with them at the highest level, we provided guidance in water retention regulations. Our innovations extended to construction, with imported fill used extensively as an engineered foundation layer with consequent reduction in infrastructure costs.
