Park Prewett, Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK

Combining intelligent advice and existing infrastructure for sustainable living

Park Prewett is located on the site of a former hospital and required a subtle approach to redevelopment as well as sensitivity to environmental concerns. This required sustainable drainage techniques and practical transport implementation, including cycle routes and a new footbridge which were all designed and built by Peter Brett Associates LLP (PBA).

The site of one of the first successfully built examples of “The £60k house” is part of a large housing and regeneration project. We have been involved in providing planning, transport, highway and utility infrastructure advice and implementation to both English Partnerships and now Taylor Wimpey.

Keeping beautiful existing infrastructure, including a historic water tower and several of the original hospital buildings designed in 1912, was a major concern for design of utilities and services, and the integration of the remaining hospital buildings which took place while construction progressed on a live hospital site.

We are now working on the northern site and have been commissioned by English Partnerships to develop a supplementary planning document (SPD) to be adopted by Basingstoke and Dean Borough Council in Spring 2009.
