The House of Tiny Tearaways,
Chalfont St.Peters, UK

A truly economically and environmentally sustainable development

The set for the TV show ‘House of Tiny Tearaways’ needed a temporary structure that had hidden production space, the appearance of a permanent building and a design that would not leave any damage to the site after being removed. Based on Peter Brett Associates LLP (PBA)’s ability to adapt to the needs of the project solution solutions, we ensured a safe and successful series for our client’s cast and crew.

The set required removable walls and a high level of sound proofing in addition to meeting all building regulations and legislation requirements. Additionally, rapid and discrete access to all areas of the building for filming was vital.

As the building was temporary and needed to address safety not only during construction and disassembly but also for the cast and crew during three seasons of filming, our CDM services had a major part in the design, planning and implementation. The set used prefabricated wall units for ease and speed of assembly, disassembly and alteration. Light-weight laminated timber roof beams were used so fewer load bearing walls were required. Two-way mirrors in access corridors allowed for safe and non-invasive filming whilst the building was constructed on stilts for easy access under the structure. It rested on easily removable, shallow concrete pads that left no damage to the site.
