Managing Environmental Impact
Once primarily considered a tool in the operation of industrial processes, the principles of environmental management are now applied to construction and land development projects.
When planning permission is achieved, environmental management is used in the detail design and construction phases to implement the mitigation measures promised in an environmental statement. For us, these have included the development of plans and procedures for the translocation of ancient woodland and great-crested newts, silt run-off control from major earth works and waste minimisation.
Good environmental management means the practical application of social, environmental and engineering solutions to satisfy often conflicting requirements of legislation, programme, public opinion and economics.
We have developed our own Environmental Management System which is accredited to ISO14001 by LRQA, and have created a new framework to assist the development of integrated sustainable development processes which we call Equilibrium.
