Cambridgeshire – PBA, now part of Stantec, has helped secure permission for the redevelopment of the Waterbeach Barracks site in Cambridgeshire.
South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) resolved to grant permission for the redevelopment of the Waterbeach site on Monday 13 May, securing the future of a scheme which will provide up to 6500 houses, including 1,950 affordable homes, shops and schools for the local community.
Much of the site will be open space and the scheme will include the creation of woodlands, grasslands and wetlands, as well as a new local centre focused on the existing lake.
PBA has supported U&C and DIO at Waterbeach since 2014 and our services were instrumental in achieving this milestone by providing an innovative transport strategy that helped overcome challenges to the scheme.
We’ve added value by bringing our experience from similar schemes and have provided a range of services including transport, flood risk, drainage, utilities, air quality, noise, sustainability and geotechnical.
Commenting on the SCDC resolution, Ron Henry, Director Midlands and East, said:
“We are delighted this project has passed this important milestone. We look forward to continuing to support Urban and Civic in providing much needed homes to the area and creating wonderful communities.”
The main development proposals for Waterbeach received preliminary County Council approval in July 2018 at their Economy and Environment Committee. Now planning approval from SCDC has been granted, U&C and the DIO will be keen to move the project towards the early construction phases soon.
