PBA has been working with Urban and Civic on the Waterbeach Barracks and Airfield site since 2014, providing highways, transport, infrastructure, Flood Risk Assessment and many other services. Our extensive experience with our current portfolio of similar schemes, suite of services, local knowledge and contacts has allowed us to support the wider design team and help take forward the ambitious masterplanning vision.
This includes a high quality settlement of 6,500 dwellings, green open space, associated commercial use properties, primary and secondary schools; and investment in a range of transport, energy, and community facilities to support both the new residents and the surrounding town and villages.
Having helped achieve temporary planning consent for change of use for a number of the existing buildings, including leisure facilities which are open to use for the village and offices, these have now hosted wider consultation events, which have helped keep the local community informed.
PBA has applied the ‘Monitor and Manage’ approach, which helps to overcome the uncertainty regarding strategic infrastructure delivery by investing money in the right infrastructure at the right time, rather than addressing impacts that may not materialise. This approach has been used successfully elsewhere and is key to getting initial phases of development off the ground.
