Following the successful delivery of the Whiteley Shopping Centre, which is held up by British Land as one of their flagship schemes, British Land reformed their team for the delivery of Drake Circus Leisure, a mixed cinema and restaurant development, which included PBA as transport advisor.
The site lies adjacent to their existing Drake Leisure Shopping Centre in Plymouth and forms one of Plymouth City Council's major regeneration sites within the city centre.
PBA carried out detailed modelling of the scheme's impact, design of the highway interactions around the frontage of the building including working between the city highway engineers and urban designers to develop a scheme which met British Land’s high standards and prioritised public realm space without compromising highway safety.
We were also assigned to carry out the acoustic assessment of the scheme, detailed modelling of the impact, and guidance on the design of the building. Careful assessment was needed due to student accommodation being in such close proximity to the site. Through detailed calculations and intense knowledge we were able to successfully meet all the criteria and satisfy the local authorities’ needs.
We also extended our services to include Air Quality and Flood Risk Assessment through the planning application. We now move on to detailed design and delivery of our new urban realm scheme to link Drake Circus to Drake Leisure on one of the main routes in Plymouth.
